Borussia Dortmund (BVB), one of Germany’s leading football clubs, has confirmed the termination of its advertising partnership with BlockDAG Network, a blockchain technology company. This clarification came in response to an inquiry sent by TheHolyCoins to the club, following BlockDAG Network’s continued public promotion of its association with the team.
In response to our request for clarification, Borussia Dortmund confirmed that the partnership with BlockDAG Network was terminated by the club. Although they did not provide a precise date for when the partnership ended, they stated that the contractual relationship is currently in the process of being formally concluded. The club further noted that ongoing legal proceedings prevent them from sharing additional details at this time.
"This partnership has since been terminated by us. We are currently in the process of concluding the contractual relationship"
This confirmation addresses the widespread use of Borussia Dortmund’s name in BlockDAG Network’s promotional materials. Having previously covered the BlockDAG Network presale in detail, TheHolyCoins also approached Inter Milan regarding their reported partnership with the BlockDAG crypto project, but the Italian club did not respond to the inquiry.
BlockDAG Network, a blockchain Layer-1 project utilizing hybrid Directed Acyclic Graph (DAG) technology, entered the crypto scene in March 2024. The project claims to address blockchain scalability and transaction speed issues while maintaining decentralization. Since its launch, BlockDAG crypto presale has raised over $150 million through its presale of the $BDAG token.
Despite Borussia Dortmund’s confirmation of the terminated partnership, BlockDAG Network continues to feature collaborations with Borussia Dortmund, Inter Milan, and boxer Alex Pereira in its marketing efforts. The Borussia Dortmund partnership is prominently displayed on the project’s website and has been referenced in multiple sponsored articles, including one published eight days before the writing of these lines.
These marketing efforts conflict with the actions of both football clubs, which removed references to BlockDAG Network from their official websites months ago, signaling a clear distancing from the project.
The use of high-profile sponsorships has been central to BlockDAG Network’s strategy to build credibility and attract cryptocurrency investors to its $BDAG token presale. While this approach has successfully raised significant attention and presale funds, Borussia Dortmund’s recent confirmation raises deeper concerns about the accuracy and integrity of these promotional claims.
Even before Borussia Dortmund’s official confirmation, investors had begun expressing skepticism about BlockDAG crypto’s partnerships. On platforms like Reddit, users questioned the transparency of the project, with comments such as “The lack of transparency about partnerships only creates confusion and distrust within the community”, reflecting a growing lack of trust. Borussia Dortmund’s confirmation might increase scrutiny of BlockDAG Network’s operations.
