EarthMeta announced on October 11, 2026, that its marketplace has reopened on Ethereum, allowing users to buy and sell virtual cities and land again after the project migrated from Polygon. The reopening follows an August smart contract exploit that prompted EarthMeta to replace its EMT token and move its wider ecosystem to Ethereum.
The project said final testing was complete and that stronger security measures were in place, although it did not explain those measures or include an audit report.
EarthMeta is a blockchain-based metaverse where users own digital versions of real-world cities and land through NFTs, tokens that record ownership of individual assets. The marketplace’s return restores a way for holders to list and trade those assets.
In a separate announcement, EarthMeta added payment support for Base, Arbitrum, Optimism, Linea, and Avalanche. These join Ethereum, Polygon, and BNB Chain, bringing the total to eight supported payment networks.
Available currencies vary by network. Base supports ETH, USDC, and USDT; Arbitrum and Optimism also support WETH, a tokenized version of ETH. Linea accepts ETH and USDC, while Avalanche supports USDC. EarthMeta said the expansion allows users to purchase cities and land and trade on the marketplace using cryptocurrencies they already hold.
EMT Exploit Triggered EarthMeta’s Migration From Polygon
EarthMeta disclosed the EMT smart contract exploit on August 3, reporting that an attacker stole 41 million EMT from two project-controlled wallets. The stolen tokens included 6 million EMT from a developer testing wallet and 35 million EMT from a staking rewards wallet.
The attacker sold part of the stolen balance for about 3,500 USDT before EarthMeta withdrew liquidity from the existing token pool and halted trading to prevent further sales. The project said user wallets, NFTs, accounts, and platform infrastructure were not compromised.
EarthMeta then announced plans to replace the original EMT token and migrate its NFT collections and staking system to Ethereum. A snapshot of Polygon balances taken on August 3 determined which holdings were eligible for the replacement assets.
The new EMT token launched on August 10. By August 14, EarthMeta had announced the migration of its NFT collections and the resumption of EMT trading on XT, while EMT trading pools had also opened on Uniswap.
