EarthMeta announced on October 30, 2026, that its 3D walking mode is live, allowing users to explore virtual versions of real-world locations on foot. Buildings, roads, trees, and water are automatically generated from map data, while featured landmarks receive additional manual detailing.
Users can select a location in the EarthMeta app, click the shoes icon in the right-hand menu, and enter the 3D environment. EarthMeta said the generated buildings use real-world shapes and height data. Users can also fly through the world.
In a separate development update, EarthMeta described improvements to the scenery and walking controls. These include 3D trees and longer draw distances, allowing objects farther from the user to remain visible. Buildings light up at night, with fireflies and auroras adding to the nighttime environment.
The update also lists hail, frost, heatwaves, volcanic ash, and festival effects. EarthMeta said it improved collision handling to reduce instances of users getting stuck against buildings while walking.
Building interiors remain under development. EarthMeta has described work on allowing users to approach a generated building, open its door, and step inside.
Multiplayer, virtual reality, and driving are “coming soon,” according to the launch announcement. A separate video post describes testing and development of cars inside EarthMeta, but the project has not announced a public driving release date.
EarthMeta’s Development From City NFTs to 3D Building Tools
EarthMeta is a metaverse platform based on real-world geography, where users can explore a virtual Earth, buy cities, divide them into land parcels, and create 3D buildings. Cities and land are traded as NFT representations, with EMT used for transactions within the platform. Its initial platform launched in October 2024, and the project reported raising $2.8 million through its token presale before EMT began trading later that year.
Development expanded into building tools during 2025. EarthMeta published a 3D AI Builder guide dated October 26, 2025, explaining how users could create structures for their land. Its roadmap also marks avatars and support for importing external 3D models as completed under its April 2026 development phase.
The walking release adds ground-level exploration of the map-generated surroundings alongside those building tools.
EarthMeta’s Exploit, Ethereum Migration and Pending Releases
Development was interrupted by a security incident. On August 3, 2026, EarthMeta disclosed a smart contract exploit involving 41 million EMT, taken from developer-testing and staking-rewards wallets. The project then replaced EMT and moved its token, NFTs, and staking system from Polygon to Ethereum.
XT confirmed that EMT held on the exchange had been converted to replacement tokens at a 1:1 ratio, with trading resuming on August 14. EarthMeta subsequently reopened its marketplace on October 11, restoring city and land trading.
Other scheduled releases remain pending on EarthMeta’s roadmap. As of November 2, its AR mobile app, listed under September, and wallet mobile app, listed under October, still carry “launching soon” labels. The AR plans include viewing virtual cities and landmarks through a device’s camera.
