Pepe Unchained said in a July 23, 2026, Paragraph post that Phase 1 of its updated 2026 roadmap shifts the project toward a consumer-first chain, after reviewing possible directions including AI, gaming, SocialFi, memecoins, DeFi and a general-purpose rollup.
The project wrote that AI applications could still exist on Pepu, but said it does not want the blockchain to depend on one market narrative. It made a similar point about gaming, saying established gaming ecosystems such as Immutable and Ronin already have years of relationships with studios and developers.
Pepe Unchained said those categories were not separate directions, but different types of consumer applications. The team said the chain should focus on users who want to trade memes, play games, collect items, earn rewards, or use products, while the blockchain itself should move into the background.
Pepe Unchained will focus Phase 1 on practical infrastructure and user-experience changes. Planned improvements include simpler onboarding, social logins, account abstraction where possible, gas sponsorship, better developer documentation, SDKs and templates, improved APIs, stronger explorers and analytics, and easier deployment and testing.
The post did not include delivery dates, technical specifications, partnership announcements, or details on builders already committed to the new strategy.
The July 23 update follows an earlier 2026 roadmap post in which Pepe Unchained said the project needed a clearer long-term identity instead of remaining "just another rollup." The updated roadmap outlined a three-phase plan beginning with research into underserved crypto markets, consumer demand and builder feedback to identify a market where Pepu could differentiate itself.
The latest update concludes that process by positioning Pepu as a consumer-first blockchain before moving into later phases focused on technical improvements, builder support and ecosystem growth.
Pepe Unchained raised more than $73 million during its token presale, which ended in December 2024, before launching its Ethereum layer-2 network and PEPU token later that month. In May 2025, the project migrated to a new Layer-2 infrastructure and introduced a new PEPU token as part of the transition.
